The Care Ministry is designed to show love and concern to people who attend The Crossing, by people who attend The Crossing, through meeting physical and emotional needs. Because of the broad range of possible needs, the Care Ministry functions as an umbrella structure and teams of volunteers are developed to carry out the details of helping individuals and families. As needs arise, those serving on the ministry teams can anticipate being called upon to help out—anywhere from once or twice per year to two or three times per month, depending on the area of service. Within the various areas of the Care Ministry there is a place for nearly everyone at The Crossing.
If you see an area you would like to serve, please contact one of the ministry team leaders for more information. If you have a need in one of these ministries, please contact Care Ministry coordinator, Michele Mayer or one of the ministry team leaders.
Funeral Care may address a number of areas, depending on the desires and needs of the family. Examples include prayer support, preparing the building for the funeral, providing a meal after the funeral, providing meals for family members, and housing for out of town guests if needed. The Meals Ministry and Prayer Ministry will be called on to assist, when appropriate.
(Home, Car and Yard Maintenance and Moving Assistance) This ministry provides help with minor car or home repair, and/or yard maintenance for those in emergency or high-need situations. Examples include single moms, families in crisis and those in financial need. This team will also coordinate moving assistance for individuals and families who request help.
GracefulWait offers support to women and couples who are struggling with infertility or have suffered the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or early infant death. One-on-one support is available or join us monthly for our Women-Only or Couples discussion groups.
This team visits individuals in the hospital, providing encouragement and prayer.
The focus of this ministry is to provide meals for people during times of high stress or crisis such as funerals, illness, injury, emotional trauma or the birth of a baby.
New Moms Ministry
This ministry provides support, care and social activities for new moms of The Crossing. Volunteers on this care team will help organize due date lists, visit moms in hospitals when desired by family, mentor new mothers, create care packages, and make home visits to new parents. This ministry will provide opportunities to offer support to new moms by making sure they and their little ones feel welcomed and loved in our church.
The Prayer Ministry provides support for individuals going through crisis. As appropriate (and with discretion), the coordinators will send prayer requests to the team through email or phone calls, or meet individually with persons in need.
Seniors Visitation Team
This team seeks to develop relationships with elderly individuals living in residential facilities by visiting regularly and organizing Bible studies and other special events. Team members are also willing to visit shut-ins in their homes and provide other forms of support to the elderly in our community as needs are identified. For more information about this team or to join in their efforts, contact the team leaders listed below.
Single Moms Ministry
This ministry partners with The Caring People to foster authentic relationships within a community of single mothers. This team meets to support women as they work to raise their children and go deeper in their faith with Christ, by "laughing together, learning together and praying together." The group welcomes single mothers outside of The Crossing membership as well, seeking to share their faith with the Columbia community.
