God has put your life in a place and time that requires courage to survive. That’s why all throughout the Bible God calls his people to have hearts of courage. Even though you can’t always see it, every minute of your life is taking place in the midst of real enemies. You may not think of life that way. So courage is not something you normally think of as one of your greatest needs. Psalm 108 is the Holy Spirit’s way of reminding you. That’s the subject of this episode. Psalm 108 ESV A SONG. A PSALM OF DAVID. 1 My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! 2 Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! 3 I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. 4 For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! 6 That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer me! 7 God has promised in his holiness: “With exultation I will divide up Shechem and portion out the Valley of Succoth. 8 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter. 9 Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph.” 10 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? 11 Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go out, O God, with our armies. 12 Oh grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! 13 With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes. Remember the last Psalm… Psalm 107:26 ESV They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; Psalm 27:14 ESV Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalm 31:24 ESV Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD! Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. 2 Chronicles 32:7 NIV Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. Matthew 14:27 NIV But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Acts 4:13 NIV When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 23:11 NIV The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 NIV Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
