Care Ministry Director
Shelly grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri. She came to know Christ in her late 30’s, after living through a divorce and four years as a single working mother of three young children. Shelly moved to Columbia in 2004 after meeting her husband, Warren. Shelly is part of the Small Groups team, helping people connect more deeply in authentic community as well as coaching/mentoring new leaders; she also oversees the Care Ministry, which includes coordinating regular service opportunities within The Crossing community and in our city. Lastly, Shelly also serves with her husband in divorce recovery ministry, with a heart for helping people going through divorce avoid the many mistakes she made.
Warren was raised in the northern suburbs of Detroit. He received his B.A. in Communications from Adrian College in 1983 and completed his M.A. (Theological Studies) at Covenant Seminary in 2016. Since moving to Columbia in 1992, Warren worked for Mizzou for 26 years. In addition to five children from previous marriages, they have one son together. Warren "specializes" in reaching out to adults in the thick of serious life stressors. Having come to Christ in 1997 out of a background of alcoholism and divorce, Warren now works part-time in The Crossing in recovery ministries and co-facilitates DivorceCare with his wife. While recognizing the truth that we are all broken and flawed individuals, Warren's passion is to share the good news of unlimited mercy and grace in Jesus Christ.
