Unit: Unit 2: Not the Way It’s Supposed to Be
Elementary Essential: God is our rescuer: We all sin and fall short of God’s glory. God is holy, completely perfect. Our sin separates us from Him. We can’t fix this problem on our own, we need a rescuer.
Elementary Essential: Through the story of Adam and Eve, we learn about the fall of creation. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, their sin corrupted God’s beautiful and perfect creation. Sin broke everything—our perfect relationship with God, with each other, and God’s creation. Because of sin, things are no longer the way they are supposed to be. God could have decided to end the story there, but because of his great love for you and for me, he made a promise that someday, someone would crush the head of the snake and end sin’s curse once and for all.
Lesson Title: The First Marriage
Lesson Summary: Children will hear about the first “best friends,” Adam and Eve. They will learn that God made them to be perfect companions and helpers for each other, but that sin spoiled their perfect friendship/marriage. They’ll learn that Jesus came to fix what sin broke, and he is the perfect example of what it looks like to be the perfect friend. Children will apply what they learned about loving each other by interviewing someone in the class and listening carefully to a time they were happy and a time they were sad.
